Assistant Teacher
Qualifications
Experience and knowledge of child development is necessary -- ECE students and grads are encouraged to apply!
An assistant teacher shall have attained one of the following qualification levels:
(1) A high school diploma or a general educational development certificate and 30 credit hours from an accredited college or university in early childhood education, child development, special education, elementary education or the human services field.
(2) A high school diploma or a general educational development certificate, including 600 or more hours of secondary training.
(3) A high school diploma or a general educational development certificate, 15 credit hours from an accredited college or university in early childhood education, child development, special education, elementary education or the human services field and 1 year of experience with children.
(4) A high school diploma or a general education development certificate and completion of a post-secondary training curriculum.
(5) A high school diploma or a general educational development certificate and 2 years experience with children.
Applicants must submit the following:
- an official set of transcripts from the college/university where degrees were obtained
- if applicable, documentary evidence of past teaching experience
- 3 reference letters
- Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Fingerprinting

- Required Health & Safety Training (Getting Started with Center-based Care: Building Blocks for Quality)
Responsibilities
Work Conditions
- Perform all physical aspects of the position, including frequently moving around, bending, reaching, and lifting up to 50 pounds at a time.
- Ability to recognize and react calmly and effectively in hazardous/ dangerous situations.
- May provide children with assistance in dealing with issues such as personal hygiene, medical needs, toileting, diapering, lifting, writing, feeding, getting in or out of transportation, etc.
- May be exposed to verbal outbursts, physical actions or bodily fluids as a part of the childcare environment.
