Assistant Supervisor
Qualifications
An assistant group supervisor shall have attained one of the following qualification levels:
(1) A high school diploma or a general educational development certificate and 30 credit hours from an accredited college or university in early childhood education, child development, special education, elementary education or the human services field.
(2) A high school diploma or a general educational development certificate, including 600 or more hours of secondary training.
(3) A high school diploma or a general educational development certificate, 15 credit hours from an accredited college or university in early childhood education, child development, special education, elementary education or the human services field and 1 year of experience with children.
(4) A high school diploma or a general education development certificate and completion of a post-secondary training curriculum.
(5) A high school diploma or a general educational development certificate and 2 years experience with children.
Applicants must submit the following:
Responsibilties
- Health and Safety observations.
- Provide tours to interested families.
- Conduct monthly fire and tornado drills.
- Create the monthly menu and place the weekly food order.
- Assist with the implementation of daily plans and activities, in addition to planning intellectual activities for children, per the lead teacher's requests.
- Coordinating daily activities and supervising aides in the absence of the group supervisor.
- Assist in supervising children and participate with children in activities.
- Prepare snacks/meals, as well as feed small children.
- Assist in teaching children about numbers, colors and shapes, etc.
- Help children get dressed, go potty, and change their diapers when needed.
- Maintain program site and equipment.
- Communicate with parents on an ongoing basis and assist with parent conferences.
- Assist with daily observations and child evaluations.
- Provide guidance for children’s behavior.
- Possibly, work specifically with children who have developmental disabilities.
- Help children with exercises, music movement, and games designed to facilitate their development.
- Be prepared to take on the role of lead teacher when needed.
- Must have excellent interpersonal communication skills.
- Must require a commitment to working with children in a developmental setting and a sincere desire to have a meaningful effect on their lives.
- Must be able to work with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
Work Conditions
- Perform all physical aspects of the position, including frequently moving around, bending, reaching, and lifting up to 50 pounds at a time.
- Ability to recognize and react calmly and effectively in hazardous/ dangerous situations.
- May provide children with assistance in dealing with issues such as personal hygiene, medical needs, toileting, diapering, lifting, writing, feeding, and getting in or out of transportation.
- May be exposed to verbal outbursts, physical actions or bodily fluids as a part of the childcare environment.
Salary
